Would this be a stupid and detrimental idea?

Okay I just saw the movie, "Into the Wild". I want to do what he did, live in the wild, get away from the destructive society that only cares about money, status, and materialistic items. I want to live with nature and find myself, learn about survival, get strong internally and externally. Anyway, I am currently a sopre in college and play women's tennis here also. Im to the point where I don't love school and I am a great writer. I feel that once I get back from my adventures, I can just become a writer and make my living that way. You may not take me serious in this message but I am and I would appreciate some honest (not harsh and mean) answers. Or rather, should I wait until I graduate from college, like Christopher did, and then make my travels or peace and exploration?
